Hi
As much as I love using the club kit (and the bent club carbons, no offence to the equipment officer ;D), I'd like to get my own kit together for the start of next term.
However I know absolutely nothing about bows and kit in general (as those who have seen me try to string a bow a testify), and would like all of your expert advice on what kit I should get (as a novice), how much I should be paying and where to get it from. I'm planning on shooting recurve next year. I'm even sacrificing my sheffield utd season ticket (£200 +) to finance this!
Cheers

go to a shop (preferably with one of us) and buy a package of some sort.... e.g. Recurve intermediate packages back
KAP Challenger Wood limbs Fast flight string + nocking point 8 Easton Platinum Plus arrows Cartel Championship Sight Cartel Triple Pressure button Hoyt Super Pro Arrow rest Cartel Armguard A & F finger tab Gompy Bow stringer Cartel 3 tube quiver Cartel Carbon longrod Hunter Finger Sling Negrini Hard plastic takedown bowcase Package price with £ Winstar II Riser 320.00 Samick Mizar Riser 310.00 Samick Agulla Riser 320.00 Winact Riser 400.00 The various prices at the bottom are refering to risers you can choose (though you can pick any you fancy not just those on that short list...) You are best off trying as many as you can (from various people around the club) and deciding what feels best to you. here are some links to shops: aardvarkcbaof course you can always look at or buy all the items seperately if you wish... in which case an online shop like altservices might be what you want ps. if you are yet another person who decides to get the Agulla, I may just cry....

oh yeah... those links also brought up "beginner packages" those are a lot closer to club bows like the plastic rolans etc.

Aardvark currently has a Hoyt Radian at 110 and an Avalon Plus at 150 in the second hand bit.
The Radian is arguably the nicer of the two, but quite a bit older (10 years ish) while the Avalon Plus is more recent and more Matrix-alike with fewer sharp angles.
Both nice bows, if I had the cash I'd probably have grabbed the Radian myself...
Oh yes, and reckon on £300 as a minimum - your season ticket may be a supreme sacrifice to you, but you'll need a bit more than that!

looking back my season ticket did cost £300 quid and I have my student loan, so I've roughly got that much to play about with.
Thanks for the advice - quite comprehensive! I'll start working through those websites.

erm... none of us have ever really used KG. While he does make some very nice stuff, pretty much everything in his shop is very expensive... poor students make do elsewhere why do you ask?

lol definitely worth it if you want something custom made... or if you decide you must have one of his bows... If you are looking for anything else its just a lot cheaper to go to one of the other shops unfortunately.

Umm, I'm not sure who "Swaminathan" is, or what relevance this post entitled "Human Rights Abuses and Privacy Violations" has to do with this thread, interesting as it seems... Could someone with mod powers here move or delete it, pleasey?
