I'm going to shamelessly copy Sarah...... Welcome social - I'm already going. Halloween - No way. I *DON'T* celebrate Halloween and I don't do bar crawls - I don't drink anything like enough and don't enjoy them Themed bar crawls - as above Club meals - Fun but a pain to find something everyone will actually eat... I might be up for a ball at the end of the year tho as I'm graduating Film night - Not overly bothered... especially as you can't really socialise which at a cinema Laser Quest - Brilliant! And would be up for paintballing as well/instead! Ceilidhs - Too painful! Alton Towers - Hard work to sort out but maybe making a weekend of it over Easter could work out ok Bowling - Could be fun I'm also going to be really annoyingly vague... but could we have a bigger range of non alcohol based socials... I know I'm not the only person in the club who doesn't drink.....

LoL... I know I do maths so cant count... But I see 6 non-alcohol based socials vs perhaps 2/3 pub crawls... In the name of equality shouldnt there be a wider range of alcohol based socials to balance it out? (not to mention the fact that the majority DO drink... and not drinking alcohol does not have to exclude you from a night out socializing or going to pubs/clubs... as a lot of people prove every night of the week)

Well to be honest if you want alcohol you can drink all you like at all of these events, except the cinema really, and i really wouldn't recommend drinking alton towers either. Unfortunately i can't think of any more non alcohol related events, what do other societies/clubs do besides drink?

while you can drink at most of these events... they are in no way centred around alcohol... and by the same logic people could turn up to some lectures and drink (provided your lecturers dont catch you)... does that mean people who arent drinking in lectures should feel unwelcome?

People who aren't drinking in lectures should feel that they have a chance of passing their course.
As for the alcoholis vs. non alcoholic socials, I was only planning about one alcohol based social a term, which'll be about the point that the people who so enjoy getting drunk will feel like one. I'll be taking people to the pub after sessions, which is socialising that both people who drink and people who don't can enjoy. I rarely drink alcohol myself when at the pub after session, but it's still a good chance to relax. I have thought this through, and I know what it's like not drinking alcohol, as I have a severe alcohol limit imposed on me by my doctor at the moment. As was mentioned before, the bar crawls are the only socials that I think it would be hard to enjoy without alcohol.
Apart from that, I forgot to mention on the list that I plan to do another picnic when outdoor season starts and if you have any ideas for other non-alcoholic socials, I'll be happy to hear them.

The picnic idea sounds good. It was a lot of fun last year. But we should probably try not to burn as much as endcliffe park as we did with the bbqs last time!

Ahhh I thought you meant 2 or 3 other themed bar crawls this semester and the rest spread out over the year (I wasn't very awke when reading this thread :$)

bowling, films sounds fun - almost everyone can enjoy them. bar crawls, themed or otherwise are good as well. pesonally prefer laserquest to paintballing (its cheaper, nearer and less painful (apparently i didn't get hit when i went)). also you have to go in a ridiculously large group to have the paintballing arena to yourself as a group - hence we're more than likely to end up playing against or alongside middle aged men who think they're in the SAS

Well we could go to laserquest this semester and if people enjoy it we could try paintballing spring/summer time when its warmer. (I take it it is outdoors?)

Wow, I have only just read this thread...
Oh, ha bloody ha, Gibbon! : P.
I'm going to create a new socials thread for the socials that will be happening towards the end of term, including the picnic social, and the end of year social.
